It is always such fun to be able to hang your art whenever, and wherever you can, and that is what Carolyn, Elaine and Joan did. An opportunity came up on a moment's notice and the next day we are at the reception. Wow, what fun it was. Joan was contacted by the owner, Glenda Araiza, who just happens to be an old friend and artist. She is big into the arts, and wants the community to get involved. She has opened a non-profit gallery called "Art Movement." She had all kinds of art created by professionals to middle school students, who were invited to hang for 2 weeks, then the art will be moved out and new art will be hung again. The title of this exhibition is: "I AM". The public was invited to come to the exhibition on Saturday evening, and visit with the artists. There was a large crowd, with food, live music and professional dancers. Her mission is to communicate and spread current art. If you want to see the gallery while our art is still hanging, it is at Memorial City Mall, next to Macy's and across from James Avery. Now please understand, you will probably see some oils from our members, as Joan's flower (oil) is hanging in the picture above.

Reflections, an oil by Caroline Ratliff, was awarded Best of Show at the Galveston Art League exhibition on May 4, 2013. Judges were Stephen and Elisabeth Lanier of Design/Works. Our pastel members are diversified into other mediums, but always find themselves pulled back to the beauty of pastel. President of PSST, Caroline especially enjoys plein air painting. "Whether I use pastel or oil, large painting or small field study, I lose myself in the process of painting. My paintings begin with large abstract shapes. As the painting develops, these shapes take on recognizable forms. I use a limited palette in oil, mixing only primary colors and white to get the preferred color. For pastel works, I use a limited number od colors. Starting with darks, I move toward the light, seeking harmony and peace. |
