The Pastel Society of Southeast Texas promotes the beauty of soft pastel painting through artist demonstrations, workshops, and member exhibitions. PSST has a vibrant and growing membership representing artists within the greater Houston/Southeast Texas area, from professional artists who have exhibited nationally and won major awards to artists new to the medium. We all share the love of pastel and its unsurpassed beauty in the world of fine art.

Feature Interview October 2017
PSST: Some of your paintings are tightly cropped architectural views that invite us to walk into the scene. How did you get this idea, and how do you turn the ordinary into sunlit beauty spots?
CINDY: Also true of those high drama painters I mentioned is the use of diagonals and a willingness to experiment with unexpected horizon lines. As humans, we are naturally programed to respond to uneven ground and to watch for anything that might be unexpected. The effect of diagonal lines of composition and vanishing lines in unusual places is to pull the viewer into the composition. When the composition is “zoomed in” or there is something mysterious about the focal point (a slightly open door, a curve in the road with a hidden light source), the compulsion to “enter” the painting is even greater.
