Huge congratulations to Alan Flattmann for winning the Pastel Society of America Award in Memory of Flora B. Giffuni, for his painting Taking Notes at Galatoire's.

Another great reason to sign up for the workshop he is presenting during our February Art of the Pastel 2014 exhibition.

Brenda Hash Portrait Drawing Demo

If you weren't at the September 7 meeting, well, you just missed a lot.

Brenda Hash was a rock star with tips and techniques rolling one after another. She described and defined proportions, plumb lines, using turn of form to anchor a mark, squinting, correcting, massing shadows. She peppered all of her demo with information about tools and materials. For this demo, Brenda used Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencil and Pastel, No. 188 Sanguine, on Strathmore paper. Click for her blog, On My Easel.
