Karen Margulis is the October 2020 feature artist. Equally well known for her blog, videos, and fresh approach to landscape painting, Karen will be the demo artist for PSST November 7 meeting. "I encourage artists to be involved in their societies even if they don’t enter the shows. There is so much to be gained from being a member of a pastel society."  Click to read her full interview.

If you are not a PSST member but would like to attend her Zoom demo, please see the information on the Meetings 2020 page.

TOM BEASLEY, FEBRUARY MEMBER GALLERY ARTIST

2/8/2020

Tom Beasley paints the beauty of Texas, from the Coastal Bend to the vast reaches of Southwest Texas.

A resident of Beeville, Tom does not often make the PSST meetings, but participates in exhibitions throughout the region. His bio is simply one to read, where he gives his personal reasons for continuing to paint.

A little excerpt from his website: "My subjects are from the natural world, usually  quiet, peaceful places.  South and southwest Texas are often unrepresented or under-represented in art.  For me, they are some of the happiest and most beautiful places on earth.  The sunrises, and especially sunsets, whether from our kitchen window  or the front and/or back yards, range from merely beautiful to explosively extravagant.  My evening walks are punctuated by the sounds  of birds and images of changing light. In the spring, when conditions are just right, we are bathed in pinks, yellows, blues, purples, reds, oranges and other hues of wildflowers and other flowering plants.  In April, the lowly prickly pear is transformed by blossoms of yellow, orange and red.  Butterflies, birds and other creatures filter in and out through the year, and the weather is often changing and unpredictable. The subjects and options for art are limitless.   I hope to share my experiences in south and southwest Texas with you through my art."

January 2020 Member Gallery Artist - Erme Waddell

The PSST Member Gallery Artist for January 2020 is one of our most sparkling, positive attitude members, Erme Waddell. Superb at capturing the spirit, character and mechanics of the Arabian horse, Erme now includes dog portraits on her easel.

Describing her childhood as fairy tale, Erme states that she has "loved animals for as long as I can remember, with a particular and enduring interest in beautiful horses. I have avidly been sketching horses since I was a child. I was very blessed with a childhood spent on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country, with Arabian horses and a myriad of other fascinating animals." Check out her meticulous renderings of animals on her beautiful, personalized website with a click or tap here.

December Member Gallery Artist, Randy Hamburg

Randy Hamburg is PSST Member Gallery Artist for December 2019
"Most of the time we take in the big picture. We tend to get so busy that we often don't see the small things.  Instead of a bloom, we see a flower garden or we see an ocean instead of a cove.  When we see something that particularly moves us, it’s usually a small part of the bigger picture.  As artists, we don’t want to just recreate something, we want to capture the essence, the emotion that moved us.  We want our art to have that same affect on those who see our paintings."

Randy paints both in the studio and en plein air at various locations in the south and southwest, using his field studies and photos references to produce larger compositions. See more of Randy's work on his website.
