11:00 CST DAWN EMERSON ~ The Choice is Yours This might be our most fun demo yet, since one of us will win the actual demo!!!!! Members are asked to submit a photograph we want Dawn to demo. She wants us to whittle it down to 3 choices and submit those to her a few days before the demo. She will decide which one to do with pastel, whichever way(s) she chooses. It will be a 1 hour demo, explaining why she chose it and how she plans to approach it. She will explain her options for choosing when to stop a painting as well. Whoever's photo Dawn chooses would win the demo! Please review Dawn’s website link below to familiarize yourself with Dawn’s art. Dawn Emerson grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, went to college at Brown University (English/Art 1977), and became an award winning book designer for an educational publisher before moving in 1987 to the high plateau desert of Central Oregon. The wide open space of the west, with all its inhabitants and unique topography encouraged new artistic expression. She also took workshops in pastel and fell in love with the medium. She began printmaking in 2008, and that led to incorporating mixed media in her work. Sharing those discoveries became the basis for her book “Pastel Innovations,” which was published 2017 and is now printed in 4 languages. "I’ve had 6 instructional dvds produced, and made a new video available on Vmeo titled “Breaking New Ground” that features new techniques about layering pastel with water mixable oil. My studio is my “Innovation Laboratory,” and I hope to inspire you to dance with your easel, play, and enjoy!" Visit Dawn's website. |

11:00 CST JEN EVENHUS - New Desert Palette - Exploring the Magic of the Desert Jen will be painting cacti and perhaps a bit of desert landscape using an unusual color palette, showing how to push your palette beyond local color. Should be fun! Jen Evenhus is a nationally recognized, award winning artist. Her bold use of color is what first attracts the eye. Jen discovers magic in her subjects with simplification and exaggeration, using her trademark style “the beauty of imperfection,” revealing the soul of the subject with a unique, bold sense of color and design. Her work is contemporary with abstract leanings, creating in both pastel and oils. Jennifer's work is often very abstract, using earthscapes (small areas of the landscape) as a starting point, she paints out most of the detail, leaving just enough for the viewer to journey into a new world. She has been published in magazines such as The Pastel Journal, American Artist Magazine, Pratique des Arts French Magazine, PSWC Magazine, and PSA Pastel-a-gram. She recently received Best of Show in the 2020 Northwest Pastel Society 34th Annual International Juried Exhibition held at the Prestigious American Art Company Gallery in Tacoma, WA., Honorable Mention in the 2020 IAPS Exhibit in Dunedin, FL and President's Award at the 2019 NPS 33rd International Juried Exhibit in Tacoma, WA. Jen is a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist, International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle Member, Northwest Pastel Society Distinguished Pastelist, and Pastel Society of the West Coast Signature Member. "Christine’s use of light is breathtaking. Her artwork needs to be seen in person so you can appreciate the subtle shifts of color in her paintings as the day turns over into night. Her work captures moments, feelings. Her subjects are not mannequins; rather they are fluid and full of life. Christine captured a moment in time, which has already flown away. She has given me a treasure. I would not hesitate to recommend her work.” ...a client
