Reflections, an oil by Caroline Ratliff, was awarded Best of Show at the Galveston Art League exhibition on May 4, 2013. Judges were Stephen and Elisabeth Lanier of Design/Works.
Our pastel members are diversified into other mediums, but always find themselves pulled back to the beauty of pastel.
President of PSST, Caroline especially enjoys plein air painting. "Whether I use pastel or oil, large painting or small field study, I lose myself in the process of painting. My paintings begin with large abstract shapes. As the painting develops, these shapes take on recognizable forms. I use a limited palette in oil, mixing only primary colors and white to get the preferred color. For pastel works, I use a limited number od colors. Starting with darks, I move toward the light, seeking harmony and peace.
