Interview with Carolina Dalmas
,
Artist of the Month-November 2015

PSST:  Why are you an artist or how did you choose to become an artist?

My mom sent me to my first art lesson when I was 7. My art teacher was a nun who inspired me with Michelangelo's intricate stories. I attended classes 2 days a week for 10 years with my best friend. I enjoyed them very much and learned the basics on drawing and painting while exploring all the mediums.
After that, I went to college to  became a biochemist,  since I also love science. When possible,  I attended art studios but I relegated my career as an artist for many years until my love for painting took over.
Many years later, I decided to launch “Artistically Painted & Designed” after some friends asked me to do decorative painting and murals, and seeing the reaction and great compliments I received for my work.
Since I’ve lived in America, I’ve taken workshops in different mediums and techniques, and found pastel to be one of my favorites

PSST:  Where do you paint? Home, studio, corner of a room? How is it set up?

I paint mainly in my home studio, which has big windows that bring natural light and a wonderful view to my lush garden. I also enjoy painting out in plain air.

PSST:  What is your subject matter and how do you choose it?

The Inspiration for my works comes from nature, especially by the incredible world of flowers. I think that the elements of design are best depicted by nature through flowers. They show us a great variety of shapes, textures, tones and amazing colors.
In addition, I enjoy drawing and painting the human figure, including people doing spontaneous daily activities. I am also amazed by different and unique cultures and architectures, which I like to capture in my art work.

PSST:  How do you describe your painting style and color choices?

Acrylic and pastels are my favorite mediums, I like the freshness of pastels because they help keep my work light, simple and yet allow bold colors.

PSST:  What art events do you have scheduled?

I am associate artist at DaVinci Gallery in Tomball, and this month I am a featured artist. There are 6 pastel pieces on display, mostly inspired by my recent trip to Istanbul and Greece. On Nov 6th, DaVinci Artist Association Gallery is hosting its usual First Friday Reception, where I’ll be painting. The event will benefit Mik's Hidden Hearts Alliance, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring hope and help to home bound and hospitalized teens with Dysautonomia and other life-changing hidden chronic illnesses.

Also one of my works was recently accepted to Artist of Texas “A Show of heART “• 7th Annual Fall Art Show 2015.

I am always eager to collaborate and donate my time and artwork for good causes like Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith, Woodlands Art League, Kilpatrick Elementary School, Project Pink, Woodlands Art League, and The Woodlands  HS Orchestra Booster Club
