I now specialize in portraits, landscapes and still life.  The light, texture and forms that draw me to landscapes and still life are enhanced in my portrait work by the gesture and sparkle that light the human face.

Like most artists, I started drawing before I could write.  A little girl in love with everything pink, I first copied the ballerinas on my bedroom wallpaper.  Luckily, over the years, a few important teachers helped me find a more original voice.

In my childhood, a school art teacher introduced me to the world of texture and color, striking an important chord.  From then on, I was in love with all things artistic. However, it was not until adulthood that I found my own inspiration. Again, it was the good fortune to find caring, thoughtful, skilled teachers that led me first to drawing monochromatic portraits, and later to painting in pastel.  Through the process, I realized that the act of painting has helped me to see and to appreciate the world around me more than I ever realized.

cindy crimmin ~ zoom workshops

PSST hosted Cindy Crimmin in two separate workshops, one day each, October 1 and October 2, via Zoom from her studio, using state of the art technology. Each day includes demonstration, individual instruction, and critiques.

October 1 ~ Landscapes

Picture
Walk to Essex Bay: A 24 x 36 piece allowed me the space to play with the lights and shadows that are the primary “drivers” for all my work. In this one, the sky holes (much like the holes in the foam of a wave or the puff of a cloud) were perhaps the most fun to paint.

October 2 ~ waves & moving water

Picture
Devil’s Falls: 11 x 14 This painting offered me the chance to explore the complexity of rock faces and the way in which water works with the contours of the ledges. Some of the water was from the reference photo and some was made up for purposes of composition.
