GEORGIA NEAME - MEMBER GALLERY ARTIST JUNE 2019

Georgia Neame starts off the PSST summer break as the June 2019 Member Gallery Artist.

Georgia recently began to pursue her passion for art full-time, and continues to hone her craft through workshops and studying with artists she admires. Her beautiful website is filled with pastel, oil and acrylic paintings. She finds inspiration in countryside views, old barns, wild flowers and "when I'm really feeling adventurous, I paint abstracts based on a mood or an object."

Take a relaxing journey through Georgia's website.

Psst meeting May 4, 2019 - Jeannette cuevas demo and mini-workshop

During our May meeting members were reminded of the May 15 deadline to register for our Members only show.  Entries are not due until June 2 at the Da Vinci gallery in Tomball, Texas.

Betty James gave a brief update on the AOTP show to be held this October.

After the meeting Jeannette Cuevas treated us to a demo on her Pastel technique using 140lb Cold Press Watercolor paper as a surface.  Steps include:
  • Line drawing transferred or drawn on Watercolor paper
  • Preparing Watercolor paper if not using a block
  • Apply Watercolor paint to surface, using large brush to cover broad areas, light to dark paints - Jeannette uses Quinacridone Gold, Prussian Blue or Ultramarine Blue and Magenta or Crimson
  • Wait for surface to dry or use hair dryer to speed process
  • Jeannette next uses dark Pan Pastels to reinforce darkest areas
  • Pastels are then applied using a light touch.  Jeannette uses the tips of her pastels instead of applying with strokes on sides of pastels - Jeannette uses hard to medium pastels for this technique instead of the soft brands
Workshop participants painted the same image, which they had drawn on Watercolor paper prior to the workshop.  If someone had remembered to bring her cell phone to the meeting and workshop, we could see the results.  I'll try to do better next time!  We did see lovely paintings.

Jeannette Cuevas Interview May 2019

Jeannette Cuevas is our interview and demo artist for May.  Click here to read her complete interview
As I began to paint more and more, I noticed how the effect of light seemed to reveal incredible beauty in the common-place images I would come across from around where I live. I was mesmerized by the way the pastel glittered on the surface of the watercolor paper texture, and how the watercolor underneath glowed from within each painting.

One of Jeannette's  paintings was recently accepted into the publication “Strokes Of Genius 11: Finding Beauty”, which will be coming out in November 2019.

She will also be receiving her Master Circle designation from the International Association Of Pastel Societies (IAPS) at their convention, June 2019, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
