Sunny McKinnon, November's feature artist, creates paintings that are at the same time both realistic and abstract. Sunny describes her process as "wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetics that is defined as ‘a view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.’ The imperfection, impermanence and incompletion I have mastered. The beauty, I’m still working on."

If their goal is to be a successful artist, it would be different than if they want to be a masterful artist. To those who want to become masterful artist I would say embrace being a perpetual student of the craft. That continual process of learning always makes you better. Knowledge is certainly important, so I would tell them to find refuge in solace and comfort in the task of learning and that goes a really long way.

If their goal is to be a successful artist in terms of financial gains, they should really learn business and marketing to do that. That’s not my number one priority, but it’s still a priority for me. Just don’t let it become more important than becoming a masterful artist. There’s nothing wrong with making a living at painting. But changing the course of history through your art? That’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
