SST members have a new benefit--a recommended photographer for artwork. His studio is in the Heights area of Houston, and the cost per image is very reasonable. Click for details on Members Only page.

fixed overhead camera position
artwork lays flat on table below camera
correctly aimed, bright lighting with black surround
clips and weights usually not necessary, so edge to edge photographed
no distortion, even when edges of paper are lightly curled
computer color and value correction, if necessary
original image and resized images exported onto your flashdrive

Unless your camera and skills are top notch, your photographed images may be the only reason for some of those competition rejections. However, if you feel confident in photographing your own artwork, remember to check out the tutorials on the PSST Photograph & Edit page.

Celebrate Independence

Anna Rose Bain wrote a blog post that seems so appropriate as we celebrate independence on this July 4th week. As artists we can look for ways to break away and try something different in our paintings.

Anna writes: "I have changed. I'm not a student anymore, but a person who is capable of taking something and making it my own.... One can spend a lifetime ,,, painting color charts, and working solely on technique, but at some point, we have to break away and start becoming artists.
