During the March PSST meeting, members were reminded that the VINCENT VAN GOGH, HIS LIFE IN ART guided tour will take place Saturday, April 6th at 10:30 AM MFAH GUEST SERVICES, AUDREY JONES BECK BUILDING LOBBY, 5601 Main St, Houston, TX.  Make sure your checks are in to Linda by March 19.

The 2019 Pastel Society of Southeast Texas All Member Show will be held at the DaVinci Gallery in Tomball, Tx., with a theme of “This is Texas”!

After the meeting members and guests were treated to a demo by Lyn Asselta, our March Workshop artist.  Lyn's demo was followed by a workshop and plein air and workshop demo on Sunday.  There was an additional studio workshop held the following Monday and Tuesday.  Lyn's demo on Saturday from one of her reference photos used an underpainting of hard pastel with a 91% alcohol wash to push the hard pastels into the paper.  In most cases she works on mounted Uart 400 paper.  Hard pastels include Caran d'Ache cubes and some Faber Castell Polychromos.  

​I have worked in many different mediums, but over time, I find that pastel gives me the immediacy in handling and strength of color to better express the subject at hand.  My surfaces are always a complex build up between warm and cool color.   Always in a hurry, pastel doesn’t make me wait.  As in life, what you see ‘up close’ and what you perceive from afar are different.  Click here for the full interview.
