January 5, 2013: Reorganization Meeting Pastel painters in the greater Houston area now have a home! The Pastel Society of Southeast Texas has been inactive for several years, but in January a group of enthusiastic pastelists met at Jerry's Artarama. Linda Dellandre and Caroline Ratliff put together a great meeting and demo. Linda performed magic with her pastels, from a quick drawing and block-in to a finished landscape painting. One key tip from Linda was how to easily mount paper to support. She uses an acid free spray adhesive, sprays it on acid free foam board, and carefully places the paper onto the support. The package is then placed under a heavy weight for several days. February 2, 2013 Meeting: Election and Paint-a-Round It takes a lot of time and energy to create and support an artist group. PSST is lucky: we have awesome members who volunteered to fill offices and chair positions. Attending members voted and elected officers and chairs. Linda Dellandre energetically led a Paint-a-Round, keeping us perfectly timed until we created four perfect paintings! Four easels were set up in a circle, pastel and supplies in the center. To demonstrate the look and feel of different papers, Canson, Wallis, Sennelier, and Uart were taped on different easels, along with different reference photos. Each member, in rotation, painted on all four papers, beginning with four minutes and too quickly timed down to one minute. Painting on someone else's work, watching the different techniques and color choices used by each member, all the way to a finished (somewhat) painting in less than an hour -- what an experience. The beautiful facility of Artist Alliance in Sugar Land hosted PSST. Thanks to Liz Czerewaty for the great slideshow now showing. Next meeting March 2, 2013, 10:00 - 12:00. JOIN US. Please email our Membership Chair for location of meeting.
